Summary Description:
Under the general direction of the RecPlex General Manager, the Recreation Coordinator plans, develops, implements and evaluates a variety of camps, clinics, leagues and recreation programs for participants of all ages. This position recruits, trains and supervises seasonal and intermittent program staff; coordinates instructors, contractors and community partners; monitors program budgets, supplies and registration trends; and serves as a primary point of contact for participants and families. The Recreation Coordinator also provides on-site program leadership, responds to customer and participant concerns, and makes independent operational decisions as needed in a fast-paced, multi-use sports and recreation facility.

Routine Job Duties/Responsibilities:
• Oversees daily recreation program and facility operations. Assigned facilities may include activity center, aquatic centers, sports complexes, and the RecPlex.
• Greets public, handles complaints, answers questions, and enforces rules of conduct.
• Reviews facility/program schedule, anticipates services needed, and makes necessary arrangements.
• Monitors, in conjunction with the Recreation Program and Facility Supervisor, Superintendent of Recreation, or RecPlex General Manager, general condition of assigned recreation facilities, evaluates facility needs, and assists in the oversight of any upgrades, improvements, defects, or damages.
• Designs, develops, and implements a variety of recreation programs for people of all ages. Evaluates recreation programs seasonally and makes recommendations for improvement.
• Creates and distributes informational handouts, promotional materials, program schedules, social media posts, website updates, etc.
• Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, disciplines, and evaluates seasonal, part-time, and intermittent staff for assigned recreation programs and facilities.
• Assists with concession operations at assigned facilities.
• Hires, coordinates, supervises, and evaluates performance of private contractors.
• Maintains accurate inventory of supplies for assigned recreation programs and facilities. Purchases additional items as needed according to the City’s purchasing policy.
• Responds to emergency calls after hours and on weekends.
• Acts as a liaison between Recreation Program and Facility Supervisor, Superintendent of Recreation, or RecPlex General Manager, participants, and staff. Relays communication from participants to Recreation Program and Facility Supervisor, Superintendent of Recreation, or RecPlex General Manager.
• Develops operating budgets for recreation programs and assists Recreation Program and Facility Supervisor, Superintendent of Recreation, or RecPlex General Manager with developing facility operating budgets. Continually monitors program expenses and makes budget adjustments as needed.
• Adheres to policies and standard operating procedures.
• Ensures fair and consistent treatment of all employees in assigned division and that all employees comply with all City policies and procedures.
• Ensures that the City’s mission, goals, and objectives are fully supported and initiated.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Periodic Job Duties/Responsibilities:
• Attends department and division staff meetings, individual meetings with division head, City committee meetings, etc.
• Attends training sessions, conferences, meetings, and workshops to stay current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work area.
• Builds relationships with external agencies, citizens, and user groups.
Education/Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Leisure Services, Education, Physical Education, Sports Management, or related degree
• Six (6) months of related work experience
